Brian Eule Named New Managing Director at FRONTLINE (PBS), GBH’s Award-Winning Investigative Series

WED., JULY 24 – BOSTON, MA – FRONTLINE, the PBS investigative documentary series produced at GBH in Boston, has named Brian Eule as its new managing director.
Eule will oversee FRONTLINE’s business operations and strategic planning under the leadership of FRONTLINE editor-in-chief and executive producer Raney Aronson-Rath.
Eule comes to FRONTLINE from a background in philanthropy, having worked in program and strategic communication roles at multiple national foundations. Most recently, he served as the director of journalism and communications for the Heising-Simons Foundation for nearly a decade. He was also a member of Heising-Simons’ leadership team, as well as a corporate officer for the organization.
In his work at Heising-Simons, Eule created and directed the foundation’s journalism grantmaking initiative, which focuses on journalism as a critical component of a healthy and diverse democracy. He managed a portfolio of grants supporting investigative journalism and underrepresented voices in mass media.
Eule created and directed the American Mosaic Journalism Prize, the largest journalism prize in the United States, as part of his work at Heising-Simons. Two freelance journalists are awarded $100,000 annually “for excellence in long-form, narrative, or deep reporting on stories about underrepresented and/or misrepresented groups in the present American landscape.”
“There is no better journalism organization in today’s world than FRONTLINE,” said Eule. “The chance to be a part of this team, with such a rich history producing such quality journalism, is thrilling for me and a dream come true. I look forward to working with the best and brightest talent in FRONTLINE’s staff.”
“Brian’s extensive background in philanthropy and communications — married with his appreciation for the essential role journalism plays in our democracy — makes him the perfect person to lead FRONTLINE’s business team and strategic efforts,” said Aronson-Rath. “We are so pleased to welcome Brian to FRONTLINE and look forward to working with him come September.”
Eule is a visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, and he is the author of the nonfiction book, Match Day: One Day and One Dramatic Year in the Lives of Three New Doctors. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University and a master’s from Columbia University.
Eule resides with his wife and two daughters in the San Francisco Bay Area. He will begin his role as the series’ managing director this September.
